This camp is best for middle and high school students who have already had some programming experience beyond drag and drop. Students should have already mastered basic programming concepts and have done some free-form coding. Students will have an opportunity to learn to fundamental programming concepts, including object-oriented programming, through hands-on projects. We’ll let Finch teach us!  The Finch is a small robot designed to inspire and delight students learning computer science by providing them a tangible and physical representation of their code. Students will work in teams, experiment, and challenge each other in this hands-on camp as we learn how to design computer programs to make our robots move. No previous coding experience necessary. We had so much fun last year, we’re bringing this camp back again this summer! All students must have completed Algebra 1 with at least a B average. This camp is open to young men and women who are interested in diving deep. Mornings will be spent learning C Programming. Afternoons will be immersed in mathematical problem solving and thinking to strengthen your skill set.

Through simple drag and drop coding, our youngest students will learn how to think computationally as they make their robots move through obstacle courses. This camp will be taught by Ayad Barsoum, Graduate Program Director – Cybersecurity, at St. Mary’s University. It’s a hands-on cybersecurity and introduction to computer programming camp that will raise students’ interest in cybersecurity and programming areas. The camp will focus on presenting students with the fundamental principles and hands-on experience that will increase their cybersecurity awareness. The instruction will include various cybersecurity topics, including security essentials, email security, phishing attacks, password security, mobile app security, physical security, safe social networks, safer web browsing, and social engineering. Register before April 15 and get a $30 discount. This camp, for students with some previous experience with cyber security, will be taught by Ayad Barsoum, Graduate Program Director – Cybersecurity, at St. Mary’s University. We’ll take a deeper dive with cybersecurity ethics and cybercrimes, security settings on personal computers, administering operating systems securely, various security threats and attacks, secure internet access, and social engineering. Moreover, students will be introduced to computer programming skills that will help them to understand the cybersecurity first principles and develop various programs for symmetric and asymmetric encryption schemes, checking data integrity, and performing cryptanalysis and code breaking.  Register before April 15 and get a $30 discount. Learn to code with plugged and unplugged activities that will teach your child how to think computationally, problem solve logically and have a ton of fun completing challenges. Every day, we’ll explore a new resource to learn to code. Students will create programs to solve problems and develop simple games and stories. No previous coding experience required. July 31-August 4 | 1 pm to 4 pm | Middle School | Minecraft Mods | NISD Learning Center | $180 | Register now

Does your child love Minecraft? We’ll enter into Code Kingdoms to let aspiring modders learn to code while building what they want. We’ll show students how to build Minecraft mods and get creative with computing. No previous coding experience necessary. If you want your child to be able to access his mods from home, we strongly suggest getting a Minecraft account before the camp begins. This camp is just for girls! In Art, students will use their creativity and imagination to create animations, interactive artwork, photograph filters, and other exciting, artistic projects both on the computer and off. We’ll use programming languages, hardware, arduinos and more to explore what it means to make art in a tech-driven world. No previous coding experience necessary. Limited space available.
