As it is our mission at Youth Code Jam to engage learners of all backgrounds and abilities, the point we wish to drive home is equity. Not to be confused with equality, equity digs deeper into making education and learning accessible for all. Where equality offers the same resources to each individual, equity observes the individual and accommodates them based on their unique needs, abilities, and skills.
Through our inclusive approach in teaching youth the possibilities of learning code and programming, we aim to meet learners where they are and give them the personalized tools to develop and grow their skills. Our events offer an environment that is both judgment-free and self-paced so that participants can explore all aspects of code in a way that is most effective and successful for them.
We believe all students should have access to learn and participate in computer science in a way that suits them. By reaching out to communities that are often underserved, we seek to provide equality of educational material and to make learning equitable for all children, according to their unique strengths and needs.
